Best Practice in Exploration Management

The 3 day course programme will examine tried and tested practices for managing a diverse portfolio of oil and gas exploration opportunities across the exploration asset life cycle. This cycle begins with new opportunity screening, proceeds through the evaluation of high-risk play-opening wildcats into maturing plays and finally to near-field satellite drilling and appraisal.

We have recently updated the course to include information specific to the current low oil price world – we look at how to navigate an uncertain future and maintain profitability in a fast changing market.

The course fee includes 3 days delivery and up to 2 days of preparatory teleconference with management to agree course emphasis and tailor the content.

The exploration management course

Suitable for

The course will appeal to exploration project leaders and exploration managers from oil & gas majors, independents and national oil companies who seek fresh insights into growing their business and wish to learn from best practice. Corporate leaders and non-explorers who support the exploration business have also derived great insights from the course.

Course preparation

Course participants will be asked to spend a few hours preparing a summary of a current project or set of activities relevant to their position in their company. During the course, they will have the opportunity to work on this privately or in small groups, depending on confidentiality considerations. The course tutor will contact participants with additional guidance before the course commences.

Course delivery

We cover the content through a mix of presentations, syndicate exercises and plenary discussion. We also aim to have some participants present their own projects or cases as basis for discussion through mini-poster sessions. For an in-house course, we will also work selected company challenges as a group
